Description

I have put together the beginnings of the Botanical Dyeing Workshop Series.

The first and most important to aid a successful and long lasting botanical dyed colour is scouring and mordanting. This is what makes the difference.  This is the basis of Botanical dyeing.

All you need will be provided.  We will work through three different fibres –  Cotton Fabric, Wool yarn and Silk Fabric. You will be provided a journal to document your experience and pieces you collect.  You will be given notes in the class to record your steps. I have set this multi workshop, so you have lots of hands on learning and at the end, collect 230 different pieces and a journal full of information.

The Scouring & Mordanting workshop is divided into five sessions.

Session one is a five hour session and is all about scouring fibres.  We will experiment with 14 different techniques. 10 – 3 Sunday, August 7th.

Session two is divided into two sessions of two hours each over two days, to maximise your experience.  We will work through 12 different mordanting techniques. Saturday & Sunday August 13 & 14 from 10 – 12

Session Three – Lets make colour!  We will dye with a dried plant, a locally grown fruit and a resin from an insect.  Using the pieces you have been working through, you will produce a beautiful range of colours. Sunday, August 21st 9 – 12.

Final session for Scouring & Mordanting series is to talk about lightfastness and the best bit – the results! Saturday, August 27th 2 – 4.

You will need to do a little bit of homework (collect at the studio – max 20 minutes) for the first session.  Wear old clothes each session and BYO your lunch for the first session.  Cups of coffee and tea will be offered each session.  Come and explore how to successfully botanically dye!
